AICAS – 25 years in the service of fragile life
„Associação Intercomunitária de Atendimento Social", which means: „ Inter-communitarian Association for social work" celebrated its 25th anniversary this year. Its institutional mission is “to promote the development and the autonomy of people to allow them a social transformation". To celebrate an anniversary means to be able to live a time of hope, because worldwide, we live in a reality that is marked by intolerance, in a society, in which people are deprived of their rights. Therefore, people who live in fragile and wounded social situations experience only little institutional help or other supportive means from Government.
Although there are good offers, yet those are inadequate. That what we are doing might also be little, but we do our part. There are thousands of people whom we assist every year! Since 25 years we act, show our strength, stand side by side with the poor. And this must continue!
Therefore we say: it's a time of hope and a time to allow for hope! In the various services that we offer in AICAS, we try to take people in their wholeness, in all dimensions, so that they can come to a greater independence and experience their rights as citizens as far as possible.
The AICAS continues to work with conviction, believes in the cause of the poor and continues to defend their rights, including children, adolescents, families, and people who live on the street.
Currently two religious congregations participate in this social institution: the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Sisters of Divine Providence. We are committed to continue, because we believe that a new society and a new world is necessary and possible!
The seat of AICAS is located in the historic centre of Porto Alegre, Brazil Street Demétrio Ribeiro 482.
We thank all those who were present on the 20th July 2019 at the dinner to celebrate the 25th anniversary of AICAS, including the Coordination of the religious Conference of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, many sisters of Divine Providence and even Sr. Lucia Weiler - our General Assistant. Thank you for the support of the congregation!
Congratulations, gratitude and God's blessings for the future!
(Sr. M. Helena Lorscheiter, Chairperson of AICAS)
