Vocation Apostolate in Solo, Middle Java
Sr. Laura, Sr. Teresa, Sr. Laurentina, Sr. Chatarina Yuli and Sr. Nurwaningsih took part in an Expo Vocation Apostolate on the occasion of celebrating the 90th World Mission Sunday on 22nd to 23rd October 2016. This was organised for the first time by the parish church Purbowardayan in Solo. Sr. Laura, the coordinator of the vocation apostolate in the Indonesian Province, invited 4 women, who are interested in our congregation to this Expo. In addition to them, Sr. Chatarina Yuli brought along a child from our children’s home who wants to become a Providence Sister.
The theme of the meeting was "I'm willing to work in his harvest" (Lk 10, 2). The goal was: to prepare young people to take up responsibility for the future of the Church and to get to know something about religious life. Except for our congregation, other women- and male congregations participated, as well as the young priest candidates from the seminary Mertoyudan. Each religious community had the opportunity to present her/his own community creatively. Therefore we made of course our natural stands of green and fresh leaves.
Surprisingly, there came not only young people to the Expo, but also children and parents. The atmosphere was very cheerful when we participants showed our talents in turns, such as band-music, dances and the traditional songs Keroncong.
We Providence Sisters sang our own songs with joy. They were composed by fellow-sisters, for example: “Jingle Providence Sisters”, by Sr. Yovani, “The first love”, by Sr. Lydia and “Make me joyful”, by Sr. Victoria. The text of “Jingle Providence Sisters reads: Happy and modest, bringing hope, this means being a Providence Sister.
The children were very excited, because they had the chance to make photos of them in a religious habit on one of the stands. This was the most popular stand, because for children, it is something special to be photographed with a habit.
