The movement to plant millions of trees
January 10 is the day declared World Day of the Millions of Trees Movement. In Indonesia, this initiative was launched in 1993. It continues to this day. Observers and environmentalists are committed to ensure that this movement does not just remain a solemn act, but becomes a real action that consciously and responsibly stands up for our common home and the people. This movement is aimed not only at environmentalists, but also at students who want to help shape their own future. The Kebon Dalem Junior High School student organization (OSIS) is a small part of the future generation of leaders committed to environmental protection. To commemorate the World Millions of Trees movement, OSIS administrators have developed a tree planting program dedicated to the sustainability of natural resources.
So far, trees have been planted in two different locations. First, some rare tree species were planted in the development area of the laboratory school in Durenan. The location is close to Kebon Dalem School. All OSIS administrators enthusiastically planted trees. Thanks to the support of Sr. Cendra, the tree planting action was well done and with fun.
As a second action, trees were planted in the Sedeng Gunung Pati area on the property of Mr. Paulus Pangka, the father of a student at Kebon Dalem Junior High School. These were fruit trees (durian). Around 50 durian seedlings were planted by students from Kebon Dalem Hight School and Kebon Dalem Elementary School.
Before planting, some suggestions from "Laudato Si'" were reflected. This document, written by Pope Francis, is important to encourage students to care for the earth as our common home.
Congratulations on raising awareness of the "Day of the Millions of Trees"!
