"Beloved Land of Nusantara" is a theme taken up by the Kindergarten (TK) Cor Yesu, Temanggung, on the theme "I love Indonesia" in order to strengthen the profile of the students of "Pancasila" indicated in the curriculum "Merdeka". The previous theme was "I love the earth" from "Laudato si: Care for the earth, our common home", with the motto "My imagination and creativity" and "I am a small business owner".
The theme "Laudato si: protection and care for our common home" was introduced in August. First, students were asked to explore their surroundings; they were affected and wondered about the amount of garbage that had been dumped in the streets and water canals around the school. Then the students were asked to dispose of the garbage properly, separating organic and non-organic waste. The organic waste is used as fertilizer, while the non-organic waste is used as a creative material. The aim is to make students aware of the need to protect the environment by learning how to water plants at school and at home and how to dispose of and separate garbage. The students brought used plastic that served as packaging for cooking oil and used it as pots to sow vegetable seeds of tomatoes, chillies and eggplant. Every day they took turns watering. On November 4, 2022, the founding feast of the Congregation of the Sisters of Divine Providence, the vegetables were harvested and distributed to the local community.
The motto "I am a small business owner" motivated the students to name their goals for the topic. Based on the results of the discussion, they then decided on the profession of "entrepreneur" to practice under the guidance of the teacher. The toddlers from the kindergarten chose a fruit juice company. Group A1 (crèche) selected a company for quail egg skewers. , group A2 for cassava chips. , TK B for banana compote. First, the possibilities of social media were explored. Then the students practiced the preparation themselves. After completion, they packaged and sold their product to local residents. In the process, they learned to communicate, to recognize the value of money and to value every profession.
"Beloved Homeland Nusantara" was the main theme of the graduation ceremony of the 2022-2023 school year, which took place on July 22, 2023. In the second semester, students were encouraged to learn about and love the diversity of Indonesian culture and to respect differences. Initially, they were introduced to various Indonesian cultures through videos; then they were asked to choose a culture and explore it in group work. Finally, the cultures of Java, Sumatra, Papua and Bali were selected. Students began to explore the art, eating habits, traditions, etc., of the chosen culture. They practiced songs, dances and music, and made souvenirs that were used as stage decorations, dance equipment and for exhibitions. Parents were involved to prepare special food for consumption.
At the end of the presentation of the works, the students had the opportunity to show their skills in the fields of dance, music, crafts and drum groups. The event was attended by all parents and invited guests. The souvenirs and pictures of the students were sold well. The students were happy because they were able to earn money in this way. Greetings from Nusantara!
