"Allowing the ‘Tree of Providence’ to grow."
This was the theme, with which we were invited to our annual ‘Provincial Day’ on October 7, 2018. So far, this day did take place in Loreto House, but this year, it was the first time that it was held at the Provincial house, Friedrichsburg. Many sisters, as well as representatives of our employees did follow the invitation.
The theme was displayed by a large tree, which stood in the chapel at the altar, clearly visible for all.
What would the ‘Tree of Providence’, which had come already a bid in age, be able to tell us: what is its strength, its roots? Which leaves and branches have dropped off already, where do new ones grow? Where is its purpose in life? Should it grow more in width or depth? To what kind of people should it offer shadow and shelter? Which fruits to grow?
Allowing the ‘Tree of Providence’ to grow – even today! That also had been the theme at a meeting of the senior staff in the course of this year, the result of which was presented by representatives of the various houses on this occasion. The focus of the day however, was the provincial report with reflections on the events in our province from the past year, with the view of what's coming up, from what roots we live, and where we continue to grow, mature, and be able to bear fruits.
At the end of the report, Sr. Paula, together with the architect, gave some information on the chapel in our new provincial-house, about its theological orientation in terms of its shape, design and decoration. That triggered some questions and a conversation evolved as well as the site visit did, which was planned in 6 groups in the afternoon.
Other performances of the day were: a PowerPoint presentation, dancing and of course, time for encounters and casual chats among the sisters.
The Eucharistic celebration at the end of the day was in line with the theme of the day with its well selected readings and songs, supported by the provincial choir. In his sermon, Dr. Köster, the main celebrant, referring with respect to the topic, said that a tree connects heaven and earth, and that even an old tree can produce new branches and thus it is also possible in our current situation to bring forth new branches, new leaves, and new blooms. Important is, where we are rooted. A very encouraging and hopeful Outlook!
