Participate or in Sega Mubeng activities
We, Risni and Rika, born in Tamiang Layang - Kalimantan Centro, and Maria Oktoviana Meko, born in Nusa - Tenggara Leste, are three Aspirants from the Congregation of the Sisters of Divine Providence - SDP, in the Province of Indonesia.
We arrived at the Aspirantate Community, in the City of Yogyakarta, on January 23, 2021. In addition to spiritual formation, we are also involved in community social activities. We were really impressed with the activity called Sega Mubeng or, in Javanese, “wrapped in rice”. The purpose of this activity is to alleviate the suffering of people in need, especially gentlemen who transport people with bicycles, street vendors, mothers selling newspapers on the street, street artists, etc. We distribute the lunch food that we cook, prepare in the community. This activity is a collaboration between religions and involves several Catholic Religious Congregations.
Our hearts were touched when we found bicycle drivers dozing waiting for passengers and mothers to sell newspapers and who walk far to earn a living. So difficult is their struggle to survive. Tiredness is plastered on their faces, but with smiles and enthusiasm they live this life.
When they receive food, their gaze is one of joy and gratitude. Happiness also flows in us. Sharing can be done in many ways, not always through something special. Through simple things and ways we can share our lives, including energy, time, prayer, talents, etc.
Our meeting with those who suffer makes us understand that life should be lived with a smile, enthusiasm and gratitude. Through this activity we learn to work with anyone with good intentions to create justice and prosperity in society. In addition, we have learned to increase the spirit of solidarity, perseverance and enthusiasm in living our vocation.
