Anniversary of our Congregation: our experience in Timor
We want to share our experience how we, Christo Rei community and clinic of Christo Rei in Timor, Indonesia, celebrated the anniversary of our Congregation through the service to the poor of Oenari, Hofehan, Rabaha and Tobean.
These four areas are far away from the city, and in these areas, there is no clinic or a hospital. If people fall ill, they must go on foot to the town Atambua or cycle on a motorbike on the very bad road. You don't have a car, and there is also no public traffic.
The people live in poverty. According to a research from the Health Department, most patients are ill with HIV (AIDS). Agents of employers are looking for people in these areas to work in Malaysia. When they return home, they often suffer from this disease. In addition, there is illegal prostitution here, which is not protected by the Government. The majority of the population is undernourished and has low blood pressure, (Hypotension).
The cries of those people have deeply moved our hearts, so we tried to help them. We have informed people in our surroundings about our concern and have planned an action in the field of health. The priest in our Parish St. Petrus Tukuneno, also has supported this action.
On September 17, 2017 we went to the chapel in Oenari to celebrate Eucharist with the people. Then we have examined individually patients with the help of three doctors, two nurses, three pharmacists and other volunteers, and gave them appropriate medicine. In addition, we gave them milk and clothing which they could choose. We have helped 353 people. They were very grateful about this action and went home with sparkling eyes. This was a beautiful experience for us and very rewarding. We believe that God has worked through us.
Let the fire of love in our hearts continue to burn!
