On 3rd November 1842, our congregation, the Congregation of the Sisters of Divine Providence, was founded as an answer of faith to a concrete need of the time.
Father Eduard Michelis was moved by the social misery, by the bodily and mental neglect, and the moral and spiritual needs of children and orphans among the poorest class of the town of Münster in Germany. In his profound faith in Divine Providence, he saw in this a challenge of the time, and a call from God to make himself available and meet this challenge in an attitude of Christian love.
True to the spirit of the Founder of our Congregation, Father Eduard Michelis, and of the very first Sisters, we Sisters of Divine Providence are convinced even now that God has called us in his great love, although we are sinners, to the imitation of his Son, Jesus Christ, in order, according to his example, to live a life of unlimited confidence in his Father’s Providence.
